time with you wasn’t meant to slip away so quickly
we weren’t meant to fall apart right from the beginning
my vision was different
and the magnet that led me to you
it was a strong and meaningful force
I remember the first guy that told me he loved me. He was the guy down the street in my neighborhood that I’d sneak out of my window at night to sneak into his. He was the guy that I wondered about everyday even when he had nothing to say. He was the guy I wrote a lot of fucking poetry about in the beginning.

Grandma met Papa on a blind date. Not the first one, but the last of many in which she didn’t even originally want to go on. Yet her sisters convinced her, once again. Fifty years later I found myself reciting one of my poems at their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Those were the two people I looked up to. Most of us in the family did.
